A lovely cottage in a most picturesque location. Not too far from Edinburgh.

Hosts were very friendly and accommodating. Cottage was beautiful and warm, and had everything we needed. Loved the family coffee table book about the farm. The red deer were amazing neighbours.

The shower was a bit of an adventure, but did the job. No complaints.

Entspannung pur

Gepflegte, sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtete Unterkunft.

If like myself & my husband, you like to wake up to beautiful surroundings, this place is definitely for you. We arrived at night so didn't see anything until the following morning and it's stunning. You do have to drive just under 20 minutes to get to a shop so I'd recommend stocking up on essentials before you get there. The Cottage was lovely & clean & really homely. The only downsides we had were the shower. We love a nice shower but the water pressure was not great and the shower didn't really get very warm. We also had an issue with the heating while there but the hosts were really responsive & sorted it out as quickly as they could. We didn't realise when we first got there but if the Hive isn't connected I'd recommend contacting them straight away to let them know because the heating won't work correctly. We used the cottage as a base for going into Edinburgh for the Christmas market. Regardless of the small issues we had a lovely stay & would still recommend.

Cosy cottage for couples and families

Lovely cosy cottage, spent the evening snuggled around the logfire, playing boardgames provided and looking out at the snowy scenery. Spent a couple of days edinburgh and a few taking scenic walks close to home. The blankets and hot water bottles were a nice touch too

Peaceful and stunning

Amazing location and comfortable cottage. We loved being able to see the stars on an evening and it being dog friendly. I would like to stay again in future, highly recommended.

Its very minor but some of the kitchenware could do with replacing (baking trays etc...)

The cottage is in the most remote, quiet and beautiful location, yet still within easy travel (by car) to Edinburgh city and surrounding areas. The deer on the farm were quite breathtaking and within clear view. The cottage is tastefully decorated and has everything you need. Just so quiet and relaxing. The host wasn’t very responsive and welcoming. We had a wonderful stay. Would highly recommend.

I stayed here with family for a wedding in Edinburgh and we thought the place was beautiful. Very clean, tidy, warm, and well presented. The host was just a call away and very helpful. It's so peaceful here and lovely to see the deer outside in the fields. Really pleased to see the kids toys as well; my son enjoyed playing with those. Thank you, we had a lovely time! Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Beautiful, peaceful stay in the ideal cottage.

Although remote, it was very beautiful. Lovely spacious kitchen/diner and living room and comfy beds. Great bathroom and garden too. Very peaceful stay.

Although a beautiful property it is getting tired and could do with some tlc - some things are falling apart and the outside of the property does not do the inside justice.

This was an absolutely gorgeous cottage in beautiful surroundings. There were so many homely nice touches. We particularly appreciated the hot water bottles and extra fluffy blankets as well as the wood fire due to the chilly season! Amazing value for money.

We couldn't work out the heating but we were out most of the time so never got a chance to ask. The fire kept us warm though! And the duvets and bed coverings were super warm and cosy.

We had a truly wonderful time at this beautiful, peaceful cottage set on a deer farm. It has everything you'd need for your stay - a well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, a clean bathroom and a fabulous garden! Totally remote. It was so quiet and peaceful. We loved it and so did our dogs. I will say the garden isn't 100% secure if you have a small dog, there are some gaps under the fencing. The garden fences are 3.5-4ft high so bear in mind if you have an athlete for a dog! We will certainly be back! Thank you 😊

Firstly, I want to say how gorgeous the place was! Full of charm and character! We loved the addition of the little log burners which kept everything nice and cosy! The deer were amazing to look at and occasionally came so close! All appliances worked and were easy to operate, which is always a plus! The only downside is that it was incredibly loud in the middle of the night. I’m usually a heavy sleeper but the sound of very loud pipes, I think, would wake me up at 3-4am every morning, sometimes earlier. The water pressure for the cold water is also not the best in the bath, and it takes quite a while to fill. There was also a strange smell coming from the fridge. Other than that, everything was great!

A cozy, peaceful, and truly special family retreat in rural Edinburgh

Our recent stay at this lovely cottage nestled in the serene rural expanses of Edinburgh surpassed our expectations. Though secluded, the cottage provided all the comforts of home, accommodating our family of six with ease. The cottage was well-appointed, clean, and imbued with a homely warmth that made our stay truly memorable. The impressive view was an extra bonus, with lake and deers. This cottage made our time together as a family incredibly special, creating memories that we’ll cherish forever. We’d highly recommend it to any family seeking a comfortable stay amidst the tranquillity of nature. We can’t wait to return!

We had a lovely stay at Maudslie Hill Cottage. The cottage was clean, well equipped and looked exactly like the photos. The best part by far was the location - in beautiful Scottish countryside with views over the nearby reservoir, deer to the rear and sheep to greet us everyday as we returned to the cottage. The cottage has a beautiful garden which allowed us to make the most of the amazing vistas at the rear of the cottage. Only minor downside was that the cottage is on a working farm and the proximity to the yard made the garden difficult to enjoy (due to the dust and noise) during working hours as the yard was in use during our stay.

A traditional cottage in a beautful and private off-the-beaten track location, with well-equipped kitchen, comfortable living spaces and beds, and fantastic views. It is a great spot from which to explore the border region as well as Edinburgh, and your hill explorations can start from the front door.

Cleanliness was acceptable to us for a country cottage, but do expect some dried-up flies in corners. Somewhat cramped access to toilet.

The cottage was so wonderful, we were finally reuniting with family after nearly 2 years for a family wedding in Edinburgh. We wanted to stay somewhere in the countryside and this cottage was so spot on. We had some lovely evenings around the fire. The host surprised us delivered us a massive bag of logs, just as we started to run low, they must have known! The kitchen is super well equipped and the bathroom felt brand new. Our only wish is that we could have stayed longer. We will definitely look to book again. On the way home to Englandshire, I realised in a panic I didn't have a sentimental necklace......my hubby had covered it over with hot water bottles on the windowsill when we were packing. After some silence in car, I messaged the host who could not have been more lovely. She said she would post it onto me and today a photo arrived of the special delivery code, making its way back to me overnight. This just further underscores what an amazing host these guys are. A million thank yous!

The cottage is very remote but that means you’ve got complete privacy in a cosy cottage the access to the cottage is down a private road which is rather uneven and close to the deer farm. The cottage kitchen and area is very good, tv and Internet was excellent as was the heating system. The garden area was completely safe and large with a lovely view of the reservoir. With the cottage being so remote on a clear night stargazing is a must plus the local area there are plenty of very nice country parks within a few short miles.

Mauldslie Hill Cottage.

The cottage itself is located in a quiet and beautiful location. Inside it has a rustic feel to it. We felt at home straight away. It has a conservatory overlooking a spacious and secure garden. That was ideal for our dog and gave us peace of mind when he was outside. This is one of the better properties we have visited

The road up to the accommodation. There are some very deep potholes.
