Beautiful Apartment Wendens Ambo, Saffron Walden

Thank you for a lovely stay, we hope to return!

We stayed at the accommodation for three nights, and it's located the middle of nowhere. The host was unresponsive, and there was only one bathroom located inside one of the bedrooms, making it difficult for others to access. Additionally, the bathroom did not have shower gel or hand soap. Although we included our dog in the booking from the start, the owner unexpectedly requested an extra charge for our pet. Overall, we did not have a good experience and would not recommend this place. If you choose to book it anyway, be prepared for disappointment.

Easy to find, great to park off the road and right outside, everything worked, comfortable bed.

A really lovely little place to stay

It is a lovely apartment and in a lovely area. The pub next door is nice and serves nice, simple meals. There is a railway station at Audley end which makes it easy to get to Cambridge. The only negative is the lack of easily accessible walks nearby.

Super place to stay, home from home, exceptionally clean and tidy. Crisp white linen and under floor heating in the bathroom - what more could you ask for! Carolyn was responsive, helpful and so kind. Can highly recommend! PS LOVED the GPlan furniture vibe!

Spent a lovely couple of nights at Trout End House. Two adults and two children. Just what we needed as a base to explore the area (Duxford, Audley End, Stansted Mountfitchet). The dwelling is cosy but fine for a short stay. House was clean, main bed was comfortable. The board games were a plus with the kids. Car can be parked right next to the place. The pub next door has an amazing beer garden with lots to keep the kids entertained. Carolyn suggested we go to The Loaf Tin Bakery for croissants on the house. I'm glad we did - they were probably the best croissants we've ever had. Perfection.

The Studio was a perfect respite in a busy holiday. It was calm, clean and inviting, and Carolyn was super and helpful. We spent the days adventuring. First a day at Duxford (not far and always a treat), second day at Audley End (a mere stone’s throw away!) and third day at Wimpole Estate (slightly further but worth the drive!). We were very grateful to be able to stay an extra night (as other plans of ours changed). Thanks, Carolyn, for a lovely stay.

5/5. Great place. Wonderful stay. Does the job. We had a fab BBQ one eve (BBQ grill provided) and lovely seating area. Beautiful big bathroom and open plan living room / kitchen. So much to do in the local area, so beautiful. Clean and not cluttered. Really useful having dishwasher. Was dog and child friendly. Had a driveway which was great for both our cars. Right next to a lovely pub which had a big garden & pond. The hosts were so kind and brought us some lovely pastries in the morning, from a local bakery. They were delicious. Such a kind gesture. I slept really well in the master bedroom - bed and pillows were so comfortable! Bedding was lovely quality and very clean. Baby slept in the cot (they provided travel cot). Was a wonderful stay, in a really wonderful village, thank you! X

Very comfy. We enjoyed the treats Carolyn had left. Welcomes dogs but garden is just a paved courtyard so need to walk up the road last thing at night and first thing in the morning to the village rec . Lots of hot water in the lovely big bath. Carolyn very helpful with ideas for supper venues etc

The apartment was absolutely perfect for our party of 4 visiting the area for a wedding. We were given excellent instructions to get there and it didn’t disappoint! Well laid out and had everything we needed for our short stay. It was very tastefully decorated and the main bed was superbly comfy with a fabulous en suite bathroom. We would stay there again if in the area.

The host was fabulous, she responded to our message for more towels, made us feel very welcomed with wine and Easter egg for our children! The property is filled with high end features and is in a charming, peaceful village even though it's very close to the M11.

One thing was that we didn't know how to get into the property! There was a locked box for keys, but we hadn't been sent info on how to access this. I suspect this was an email overlooked by the management company. Luckily the nextdoor neighbour was very helpful and assisted us to open the lockbox. In hindsight, we should have reached out to the owners/management team earlier.

Great place to stay whilst working away

The accommodation was warm, cosy and the beds were really comfortable. It is a great place for self-catering we had everything we needed. However, Saffron Walden is only about a 45 minute walk away where there are lots of places to eat and drink. It is a beautiful village, unfortunately for us most of the local amenities were closed for renovations but they are due to open again at the end of the month.

Pretty self contained annex with garden in pretty village of Wendens Ambo. Easy check in, great space. Amazing bakery opposite (but moving) but worth checking its opening times.

Carolyn’s place is wonderful - beautifully situated and it was a great base for us for travelling into London. I’d have loved to have had more time to explore the surrounding area! All of the necessary amenities are provided and the croissants from the local bakery on our last morning were absolutely delicious - hands down the best croissant I’ve had and it was a lovely surprise 😄 The pub is situated next door to the property and the owners were extremely friendly, we called in for a few pints and ordered a takeaway on our first evening! There is currently no food being served in the pub due to renovations just FYI. The train station is approximately a 10 minute walk and easily accessible. Thanks Carolyn for a lovely stay - it would be lovely to come back during the warmer months and to be solely around the local area ✨

Lovely place to stay, very stylish - would happily stay here again!

Loved your space and the croissant treat was very special. Host's communication was great and overall a lovely experience staying here. We stayed her for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding in the area and proved to be just the perfect spot for us.

We had a wonderful, peaceful stay in Wendos Ambo. The Airbnb was faultless, very clean and nicely styled. Would definitely recommend to anyone who needs a weekend to recharge in the countryside.

Pretty village with a park & playground nearby, good walks for our dog andfantastic bakery across the road.

No microwave?a few lightbulbs need replacing, we had to dog proof the patio space as our dog found his way into next door garden!

The apartment was beautifully decorated, lovely and clean and the beds were super comfy. We were supplied with breakfast from the bakery over the road, and there were complimentary items left for us too.

I didn't realise that the ensuite in the master bedroom is the only bathroom/toilet, probably a mistake on my part. For that reason, the rest of the guests had to walk through my room to use the toilet.

Beautiful Apartment is exactly right. In a beautiful setting. Quiet little village just a couple of miles from town but far enough away for peace and quiet. With everything you need included. I would highly recommend.

The only thing I could say if pished was the toilet was not in a great location. Friends a Had to come through the room to use the bathroom. Not ideal through the night. Was not a big issue and is the only thing I could fault is pushed.

The apartment is beautiful and finished to a high standard. There is one large bedroom with an en suite bathroom. Across the hall is another smaller bedroom but it has a double bed. Downstairs has a very comfortable living area and kitchen plus there is a lovely patio to sit in outside.

The second bedroom has no access to the bathroom/toilet except through the other bedroom which was inconvenient as they were not able to use the toilet during the night.

The smell of smoke from the pizza oven at the pub next door limited our use of the courtyard in the early evening. The hum of traffic from the M11.

We found the cottage to be a beautiful oasis to use as a base for exploring and relaxing. It had everything we needed and Carolyn gave us some great local recommendations for dining. There was off street parking and a private outdoor space.For us it was a short drive to our main attraction, IWM Duxford.

The place is great comfortable well decorated and cute, it is easily large enough for 4 people. The bed is very comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need. Great The host was very helpful and generous, providing us with treats and croissants from Wonderful bakery across the st. The Bell pub next door is quaint and charming. The one issue is, because of 3rd party management company, communication can be challenging, getting check in details etc. Once you get in touch with the host everything is great she is wonderful!

We had a wonderful stay. The flat is very clean and tidy, the kitchen is well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. The location was perfect, across the street of a very good bakery, 5min drive to the Auley end railway, house and gardens. The owner was also lovely, prepared some breakfast for our first day. We definitely recommend it.

Beautiful annexe with private access and courtyard. Absolutely loved the interior, gorgeous master bedroom with super king bed and fabulous bathroom with claw foot bath. Bijou kitchen with all mod cons. Really fabulous find and would stay again. Only comment would be communications are slightly complex due to listing being made by an agency and owner is contacted through them. All communications were swiftly responded to but in comparison to owner-led communications there was another layer to get through.

Clean spacious, next door to a good friendly pub

Really lovely stay and the perfect getaway from London. We came during the night and there aren’t any street lights so it was difficult finding the place as maps takes you to another property, other then that it was really good and would definitely recommend

We had a lovely stay! The place was very cosy, the bed was very comfortable and we loved the roll top bath. Cookies from the bakery across the road were a lovely touch as well.

There is only one toilet in the only bathroom, which is en-suite and, therefore, is only accessible through one bedroom.

Just back from a our stay at TravelNest. We used this for a business trip instead of a hotel. perfect for work and pleasure and the bakery Loaf Tin across the road also superb. Thoroughly recommend this lovely little gem :)

Stayed for two night, and loved every minute of it. Good size main bedroom and lovely bathroom. Not too far from Saffron Walden or Cambridge. Would stay again if in the area.

The decoration and facilities. Even the hair products were lovely and top quality!

All excelente though adding a pair os scissors would be welcomed.

A spacious two bedroom apartment in an absolutely deligthful small village very close to larger market town and train station. Trout End studio literally opposite one of the best bakeries one could hope for. The studio has a very spacious main bedroom, well equipped kitchen, good living spaces, second bedroom and charming bathroom. Also excellent heating and great parking.

Not much - we'll certainly come back to Trout End.

Within walking distance of the station. Quiet village setting with parking. Very helpful host. Large bathroom with separate shower and roll top free standing bath. Complimentary bottle of wine and box of chocs. Fresh flowers in dining area and bedroom. Full size fridge and freezer, washing machine and dishwasher.

Would have liked a microwave as well as the conventional oven and hob. Also worth mentioning is that you have to go through the main bedroom to get to the toilet/bathroom. Not a problem for a couple but may be a problem if other family members want to use the bathroom in the night.

Tasteful, comfortable and well appointed place to stay near Saffron Walden. Lots of thoughtful little touches make you feel welcome from a bottle of wine, to fresh bakery gifts and Cowshed soaps. Everything clean and tidy. Right next to the village pub too!

Be aware there's a bit of road noise from the nearby motorway.

Nothing really. Couldn't work out heating, but we had a fan heater that was more than adequate. Could have done with a spare toilet roll 😳

Wonderful, highly recommend

Nice that there was tea, coffee and milk there when I arrived along with some lovely biscuit from a local bakery. The apartment was bigger, better equipped and furnished than I was expecting and the big three (Bed, shower, Wi-fi) were all great. host was really friendly and helpful. Love to stay here again.

Nothing, it is fine as it is.

A perfect little place for our family of three to stay whilst visiting my parents and the other 17 members of the extended family . Really well fitted out with great extra touches such as cookies and wine. Having grown up in the village I can tell that The Studio is well placed to explore the local area as well as catch a train fir a 20 minute journey to Cambridge or a 1 hour journey to London! We will definitely be back.

Very clean. Well appointed with dishwasher, washing machine etc. Two good bedrooms.

Hard to find; a good map would make it easy to find as it's right next to a pub. It says it's next to the pub but that doesn't help much when you're in a car on a narrow road and you can't stop to check. Also doesn't say where the key safe is, and that entry is to the rear - spent 10 minutes trying to open the front door with the back door key.....

Die Fotos hatten nicht zu viel versprochen, das Studio war sehr schön, geschmackvoll eingerichtet und sehr gut ausgestattet. Wir haben nichts vermisst. London ist mit dem Zug in einer knappen Stunde zu erreichen. Die Ausflugsmöglichkeiten sind vielfältig. Ein Auto ist allerdings nötig. Sehr zu empfehlen ist der Bäcker gegenüber The Loaf Tin und die Pubs The Crown in Little Walden und The Eight Bells in Saffron Walden.

Wir haben gar nichts zu bemängeln.

We stayed here to attend a wedding at Quendon Hall. The Studio was perfect, exactly what we expected, and Carolyn could not have been more helpful. We had fabulous pastries for breakfast from The Loaf Tin opposite on Saturday morning - highly recommend. The only thing to bear in mind is that there seems to be a shortage of taxis in the area - and Uber don't operate here - so if you need one be sure to book well in advance. Thank you Carolyn!

My husband, two children and I stayed at The Studio for two weeks while visiting family nearby. It's a really lovely setup - clean, has everything we needed, plus a nice courtyard for sitting outside. Carolyn was a wonderful host - we really appreciated the baked goods from the nearby (and wonderful) bakery, and the jam. Also, the printed instructions/suggestions (about the rental, nearby attractions, restaurants) may be the most well-organized and thoughtful information we've received when checking into a holiday rental. We know the area well but she introduced us to several new (and wonderful) places, like Provenance and Sparrow's End. For other families traveling with children who sleep best in their own beds: there is room in the smaller bedroom for a single airbed, alongside the bed that's there. Had a wonderful time and hope to be back soon.

Beautiful modern annex to house. Loved the decor and furniture, fabulous taste. Travelled with our dog so private enclosed patio was a real bonus. Lovely to sit outside with my morning coffee. Village pub next door was very welcoming and served well priced food and drink. Enjoyed the welcome gift from the bakery, thank you.

We loved our stay! Especially enjoyed sitting on the private patio, walking next door to the pub and bakery for meals. The apartment is beautifully furnished and perfect for a quiet getaway. There was delicious bread and treats to welcome us. It’s situated in a beautiful part of England. The notebook guide gave great instructions and suggestions on what to do in the area.

It was inconvenient to have to walk through the master bedroom to get to the one bathroom, especially at night. Not the best arrangement.

One of the nicest Airbnbs we’ve stayed in - really high-spec, super clean, and well designed/stocked, and in a lovely village too, well situated for Audley End, Saffron Walden and Duxford. I should mention that there is a bit of a background hum from the M11 and that there was some noise from live music in the pub next door (The Bell Inn) on the Sat night but this was not a regular event so might be worth checking their social media etc if you have young kids/need an early/quiet night. We would definitely stay here again on a non-music night!! The pub also does excellent pizza (in or out) so it can be a plus too!

SUCH a lovely spot for a weekend retreat. Gorgeous outdoor space, cosy and light interior (the huge bath tub was a personal highlight) and lovely pub next door. Couldn’t have asked for more!

Great communication from the start, really informative local information before we even got there. Really lovely unexpected touches like bread and cookies from the local bakery! Flawlessly clean, great facilities and the BEST bed! Ideal location for us especially with the local walks, quiet village location, local amenities and playground just across the street (an unexpected bonus when you have a 5 year old). Outdoor space made it perfect for visiting with our dog too. Will definitely stay again.

We had a lovely stay in this spacious lodge. The master room was huge and the bath was just amazing! The kitchen was very well equipped and very well thought out with everything you could need. There was so much thought and care put in to our stay with a lovely welcome basket (the host asked in advance if we had any dietary requirements) and a travel cot all set up too. We wouldn't hesitate in rebooking for another time. Thank you

This is a truly lovely apartment, decorated beautifully and full of thoughtful touches that made us feel welcome. Carolyn was friendly and kind in all her communication, and the location is idyllic: a thatched cottage across the street, a calm and green outdoor seating area, a pub next door, and the most charming village to walk around. The tub is especially luxurious and there were beautifully scented bath salts to use. Overall, the value for money here is excellent. One word of warning: the floor is incredibly slippery, so be careful!

Had a lovely three night stay at Trout End Lodge. Carolyn was most accomodating and communication was excellent.

Lovely accommodation . Host on site if needed. Own small secluded garden area with seating and fire pit. Feels very private. Nice traditional country pub next door. Natives very friendly. The ladies loved the extremely large bath. Excellent bakery across the road. Will definitely use this accommodation again when in the area. Chris and Loraine

Absolutely stunning home. Perfect location for travelling around the area. Will be back for sure. Carolyn the host, was so easy to communicate with and went above and beyond to make our stay special.

We just stayed for three nights and just what the Dr ordered. Carolyn’s studio is well put together with the most amazing bath and the courtyard is a lovely spot to chill. Carolyn got back to us quickly with any questions we had and not being was a bother. Our only negative is that the second bedroom has a very small double. It was too small for our 10 and 13 year olds to share so one of us had to sleep on the sofa. All in all we have had an awesome bank holiday and ready for the weeks ahead.

Beautiful house in a very cute area. This was the first time outside of London for my wife and daughters and we loved the location. The house was well appointed, comfortable and immaculately clean. We will be back!

A really nice studio that is well equipped for a short break away from the bustle of London. Beautiful sun trap garden, with a comfy couch and big bath to relax in. Carolyn was quick to respond to any questions and was really friendly. The studio is about a 10min walk from the station, and with limited local shops nearby, so if going without a car, be sure to bring any drinks with you for the duration of your stay. Would highly recommend.

Bright and beautiful air b&b in a lovely location! Very clean and tidy with everything you need, along with a thoughtful extra touch of local tasty treats for breakfast! Host is super responsive to answer any questions you have and have put a lot of effort in to informing you of local places to shop, eat, and visit, along with excellent walks for you and your furry friend. Would reccommend and would definitely stay again!

Very comfy beds and great bath! The location is really nice and you can easily go into saffron walden or Cambridge so lots to do. It was very nice arriving as there were lots of little treats which was lovely :) definitely recommend and brill price.

A truly beautiful place to stay. The host is friendly friendly and the communication was great. We arrived late after a long journey and there were some very welcomed treats waiting for us when we got there. The little house (the apartment is over two floors) was stunning and very clean. The bed was so comfortable and the whole place felt very cosy. We hope to be back!

Great stay

Carolyn’s studio was a great place for us to stay while we had works done on our house. Lovely cosy beds and a fabulous big bath that my kids loved!! The courtyard was secure for our two dogs with great walks from the doorstep. Wenden Zambo is beautiful! Anything we needed we were able to ask knowing we would get a quick response. Thank you for having us. We would definitely stay again for our future house plans.

Absolutely everything exceeded expectations. From the stunning décor, the organic gifts, toiletries. The village was perfect for what we needed (pub next door were also very friendly), easy access to London for the theatre. Highly recommend to avoid staying in central London.

This is a lovely place to stay Just what we needed We had two lovely relaxing days over Christmas I would recommend for a couple and a child but this not suitable for two couples I would think it’s beautiful in the summer

Lovely, comfortable little house- beautifully decorated with the best bath ever!! Would definitely stay again! Only slight downsides were some through noise from the main house and the second bedroom has a glass wall that connects to the main house which had a light that often shone through or would come on randomly in the middle of the night and wake our baby (who was sleeping in that room!) Otherwise our stay was perfect! Carolyn was a great host and even left goodies for us to enjoy! :-) I would recommend this place. If you stay then definitely check out the bakery across the road- their bread and cinnamon buns were incredible!

really cosy accommodation with nice little additions, plus a really good location! Furnishings were very plush and blessed with such a wonder bath However for us it was particularly spoiled by the level of noise from the pub next door, we could hear the entire playlist and it went on till past midnight. Didn’t mind paying extra for dog fee but it wasnt that practical for the dog as no grass in the garden. However I would highly recommend if perhaps a week night as it might be possible to get a better night sleep.

Stayed for a second week, just as good as my first review

Staying at The Studio @ Trout End was an absolute treat. Carolyn took such care in all the small thoughtful details, leaving fresh local produce for our stay. And even the hand soap in the bathroom was gorgeous! All the bedding was luxurious and spotless. It really was perfect. And next door to a quiet and friendly pub! Can’t ask for more.
