Pod Beag beside the sea, Isle of Eriskay

4 guests · 1 bedroom · 2 beds · 1 bathroom

Pod Beag Na Haun is idyllically situated on tidal Haun Bay with Island views to Ben Scrien and across the Sound to the hills of South Uist. Unique, cosy and equipped to excellent standards with a spacious, secured decking area it's Eriskay's first luxury pod. The friendly, peaceful, historic Isle of Eriskay renowned for the 1745 landing of Bonnie Prince Charlie, to reclaim the Scottish throne is marked by a simple cairn above the exceptional white sandy beach now named in his honour According to legend the Prince scattered convolvulus seeds as a symbolic gesture which appear, as if by magic, amongst the marram grass every July and August. The village beach at Baile, at low tide, is perfect for raking shelfish, an enjoyable pastime for many Islanders and visitors. The Island is well-served with its excellent community shop and the Politician Pub serving fresh local seafood daily caught by Island fishermen. The restaurant is now open all year round. It also has a famous connection. When the SS. Politician ran aground off the small Island of Calvay in 1941, the cargo of whisky was too precious to leave to the fish. The antics of the Islanders inspired the film Whisky Galore and a bottle or two of ‘Polly Whisky’ is proudly displayed in the bar. Leave your car at the door and traverse the whole Island easily on foot. Reach the top of Ben Scrien, an easy climb, and on your way view Eriskay's world-renowned football pitch included in FIFA's top ten. Enjoy the most spectacular view of all the surrounding Islands from the Cuillins of Skye to Rum, Canna and the Inner Hebrides, and on clear days St.Kilda. The docile Eriskay Ponies, a rare breed, roam the Island and can even be spotted from your deck. The owner, artist/photographer lives next door and is happy to provide you with any local information on any aspect of the Gaelic Culture and language spoken by the Islanders, but your privacy is always respected. The surrounding tidal waters team with wildlife from basking seals, otters, porpoises, sea -eagles and oyster-catchers. The island is fabulous for all water sports and fishing. The Eriskay Causeway allows easy access to the neighbouring Islands of South Uist, Benbecula and North Uist with many cafe's, restaurants, museums and fantastic scenery to enjoy. The car ferry to Barra can be caught at Eriskay's ferry terminal only a few minutes drive from Pod Beag. Why not enjoy a peaceful and invigorating retreat, and experience the uniqueness of Scottish Island life.

Great location. So peaceful and amazing sunrises!

Wow what a location - quiet and peaceful with lovely views. Our first time in a pod and it was bigger than I thought it would be. Had what we needed, comfortable and the outdoor space was good.

Would be good to have some comfortable seating outdoors and maybe an outdoor storage box for stuff that you can’t fit inside?

Great weekend in a fantastic location.

Great location and great walks and beaches nearby. The pod had everything we needed for a lovely weekend on Eriskay. Lovely to be able to sit outside, where we spent most of our time. Coffee, tea and lots of biscuits was a nice welcome. Especially if the shop is closed.

Nothing. Cushions for the outside seats would be lovely but not essential.

Magical experience

View incredible. We were blown away. Local pun “AM Politician” wonderful.

Only one small criticism. There was no drying cloth or dish cloth (that we could find).

What a wonderful little place! It’s very well thought out so it feels like you have more space than you do. Eriskay is completely walkable so the location is great, private and peaceful. Had everything we needed. Bed was super comfy. Great stay, would recommend.

Ok

Tarpolin over roof flapped all night. The microwave on the sink draining board was dangerous. The overuse of 5 airfreshners made us wheeze. The septic tank smelled bad. The door to the shower room kept opening when locked.

Nice and comfortable with everything I needed for my weeks stay. The location was superb with a lovely view over the old harbour.. Morag the owner came round a couple of times to check and see if everything was ok. I would like to stay there again. Eriskay is beautiful.

It didn't matter to me but the WiFi signal was a little weak sometimes.

Gorgeous Glamping Pod in a stunning location.

Simply stunning location, very comfortable, cosy and clean accommodation. A pleasant walk to The Am Politician, the local pub, which served great food and beer with very friendly and efficient staff. The local shop, which was also a short distance away, was very well stocked. Eriskay is a wee gem of a place and we will certainly be back!

There was nothing that we didn't like! Everything was perfect!

The whole trip from arriving in Lochmaddy and then leaving via Lochboisdale was wonderful. Eriskay was beautiful and the pod provided a fantastic base. Amazing beaches and wonderful wildlife - in our four days we saw golden eagles, an otter, owls, minke whales, a pod of dolphins along with numerous seabirds.

Wonderful stay on a wonderful island

The pod is in an absolutely stunning location, looking over the water and within easy walking distance of the island pub and shop. It's an ideal place to stay if you want to hike around the island (my husband), or just sit and drink in the views (me). We both enjoyed sitting outside with a glass of wine, watching the ponies on the hillside and the sunset. The pod is fairly well equipped (although it could do with a tin opener) and the WiFi works pretty well. A lovely place for a peaceful break.

We could have done with some directions, particularly as GoogleMaps is inaccurate. For anyone traveling from South Uist follow the road over the causeway until it becomes a T junction. Turn left and then take the first road left immediately before the house with a blue roof, there is a green shed on the corner (there are a couple of drives off to the left before reaching the actual road). The pod is half way down. If you cross the water you've gone too far.

Stay here!

Set in an amazing location just beside a bay the pod was very nicely furnished and extremely well equipped. Our host was so welcoming and we loved our stay. Would definitely come back and highly recommend.

Bathroom was a wet room which was great, a squeegee for the floor would be good.

the view and outlook is just wonderful. we enjoyed being able to paddle board from the hut. the local pub is great too for dinner.

bed is 3/4 size which is ok but could do with a bigger duvet. we didn’t sleep too well. I don’t think it should be marketed for 4 people. it was fine for two.

If you are looking for a comfortable alternative to camping then this is a great option. Well equipped, warm and roomy (for a pod) for 2 people, as long as only one person is trying to move or do something at any one time. You could fit in 2 kids at a push, but 4 adults would have to like each other an awful lot.

The bathroom/wetroom floor is in need of attention as the shower water flows away from the drainage holes and floods the whole room.

Ideal pod with everything you need for two people in an excellent location on Eriskay

The pod is ideally located on the side of a small bay with beautiful views. It has everything you need for two people, was warm and cosy, especially as it caught the full sun in the mornings, ideal for sitting outside for breakfast. It was less than a ten minute walk to both the Am Politician pub and the Eriskay community shop so everything was close to hand, we even saw the wild Eriskay ponies most evenings on the hillside and seals in the bay. The keys were left in the door by the host (Morag) when we arrived, so the handover was simple and she had left a postcard with notes on about the property which was very helpful. It is completely self contained with everything you need although Morag only lives next door so is ready to help if needed. All in all a lovely cosy pod.

Morag had told us about the shower which was slow to drain. Once we mastered the timing of our showers this wasn't a problem.

our host was lovely, do book in advance for dinner, it is excellent, cooked to order, wonderful scallops, lobster, mussels, and steak, the pod had everything we needed, full kitchen , but we didnt cook, wide range of breakfast items left for us, milk, bread butter, croissants, cereals, fresh fruit, etc. very comfortable bed, all very clean and fresh. you are a distance from resteraunts , which are booked well in advance wherever you go in the Isles,

Fantastic short stay. Wish we had longer.

For context we have never booked a pod before and we decided to give this a try. So pleased we did. This property is amazing. The pod is comfortable, much warmer than I was expecting, no need for a heater. Shower was great and cooking facilities just what we needed. Very comfy bed as well. But the view, oh my, what a view. the sound of the tide coming and going, there were seals in the bay and a Short Eared Owl hunting too. We only had two nights here, next time will be longer.

Just beautiful! Great, modern pod in a wonderful waterside location looking out to sea and the hills. Very welcoming hostess in Morag. Everything in the pod that you needed for your break. 10-15min walk to the local pub that was very friendly and offered great food.

A bit cramped for 4 adults - next time we will leave our daughters at home 😁.
