3-Bed Barn Eco-Lodge on the Tarka trail

We were given such a warm welcome by Michelle and Vincent who were such helpful hosts. It was in a perfect location and had everything you could ask for.

We had a fab stay at the Orchard House. The hosts were extremely flexible and helpful. The accommodation was spacious, clean and well maintained. We will be back for a longer stay next year.

Wir sind 1 Nacht im Haus geblieben und haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Haus hat viel Platz und ist sehr praktisch eingerichtet. Wir haben auch leckere Kuchen im Café gekauft, sehr lecker. Die Zufahrt erfolgt über eine enge Strasse, aber ist erreichbar. Vielen Dank, dass wir diese Erfahrung machten durften.

Water pressure was less and wifi was poor , but wifi being poor means we spend more time talking and spending time in garden .

Fantastic couple running an excellent stop on the Tarka trail. Directly next to the trail, no detour. Tasty home cooked food for dinner and breakfast. The owners couldn’t do enough for us, fantastic! Thank you!

Vincent welcomed us. The bunkhouse was right on the tarka trail, good for a quick walk out on the Saturday morning. Grabbed a coffee at orchard yarde cafe before heading off

Nice house in a beautiful garden of apple trees. Feels like staying in a book of Astrid Lindgren. Too bad we could enjoy it just for one night

Fantastic find for our stop off on our way down to Cornwall. The chalet has everything you’d need as well as tea, coffee, milk. Highly recommended.

Nice accommodation in a beautiful location. Perfectly placed for the Tarka trail. There is no TV, which we weren’t aware of, but the listing clearly states that it’s not included. This was ok for us as we were only staying a night, but I think we would have missed this amenity if we had been staying longer.

Breakfast and evening meals were served in the Yarde Orchard cafe on the same property, both meals were very good and good value. The 2 bedroom lodge was more than enough for our needs on a 1 night stay, with a comfortable room, sitting area and a kitchen. We were able to store 2 bikes in a covered structure with a locking cable. Location was perfect for cycling the Tarka Trail.

Beautiful bunkhouse with everything you need.

Very comfortable and spacious bunkhouse. Ideal for a family escape, as described you step out of the gate onto the Tarka Trail. We found it’s about half an hour drive from the beach, but nearby Great Torrington has all you need for food and drink and is only a ten minute drive and we passed through frequently. Otherwise you can enjoy some very dark skies and the feeling of being away from it all, whilst still being relatively close to some of North Devon’s highlights and beautiful scenery.

Advertised as dog friendly, however the owners really did not seem ok with accepting dogs into their property. Only when we arrived I was informed that 1 small dog is allowed & that usually the option is given to cancel. Why this is not included in the listing instead of going to the effort of booking I have no idea as we clearly didn’t know & it was mentioned 2 other dogs had stayed recently who’s owners presumably didn’t know until they arrived either. The only lounge area is on the landing, but dogs are only allowed in the kitchen or entrance area, both of which are hard floors, which is a real shame as it seems like a missed opportunity to not allow dogs to sit with their family. We were not expecting to let them on any soft furnishings but were made to feel quite uncomfortable & found it hard to relax after the owner asked to ‘have a word’ about the dogs. The garden is the perfect enclosed area, but we were reminded that the rules are dogs have to be on leads at all times, something else we didn’t know until arriving. The owner seemed more concerned about using the garden as an extension of their own garden to grow veg, which made it difficult for us to feel as though we had the space to ourselves as you’d expect when paying to book an entire bunkhouse & we felt overlooked. If considering booking this property with your dog(s) I would suggest thinking twice as a comment was made to us about how previous dog owners left the place so I really feel the property should not be advertised as dog friendly at all, or better still, reconsider the restrictions in place as every other dog friendly break we have booked has been much more accommodating & the dogs were really happy before we were told they have to be on leads. My Wife left a day early with the dogs as she chose to sleep on the floor with them the night before, rather than leave them isolated for another night.

A great little place, tucked away in an idyllic spot. Whole area surrounding the lodge are lovely. The cafe next door is nice and inviting - and owners really friendly and accommodating. The pizzas on a Friday looked fabulous! Ideal for dog walkers, or cyclists…or those just passing through like us.

Great place for a base accommodation. Fully kitted with everything you need. Friendly and helpful hosts. Cafe next door, decent food and reasonably priced. Really pleased with our choice!

Perfect for cycling the Devon C2C.

Cafe closed at 4 so need to be organised about food as Supermarket is a hilly cycle ride away.

The location was idyllic, the lodge was fantastic and the owners where warm, welcoming, very helpful and lovely people. We certainly aim to come back here one day. Excellent.

You cannot ask for a better location if doing the Devon Coast to Coast cycle!

A perfect escape, clean and tidy, right on the Tarka Trail, away from the hustle and bustle but with a friendly cafe conveniently on your doorstep, and country walks just a short hop from the front door. We appreciated the extra little touches - milk in the fridge & games for the children, they loved the magnetic darts and lots of books to read.

It was very nice, comfortable to stay for a few days, has great service lots of necessities was provided for us very helpful. Super clean and and really beautiful to look at it was ascetically pleasing to look such as beautiful flowers in the garden. Nice camping outside area and a nice trail for outdoor exercise such as cycling or walking. Our stay here was enjoyable, Fraser experience.

A lovely spacious lodge, with a fully equipped kitchen. Close to the lovely town of Great Torrington

We stayed for just one night at the Lodge, using it as a base for exploring some of North Devon. The location is stunning and we were very well looked after while we were there. The accommodation is quite basic but for us it was perfect and had everything we needed. Great value too!

Lovely unique house with nice hosts in a beautiful location!

We were made incredibly welcome after arriving much later than expected after a stressful car journey losing my car keys. Hosts made delicious dinner for us after cafe would normally close and fantastic with my kids too.

The accommodation was perfect, Clean and well equipped with everything we needed. There is an on site cafe with a lovely outside area. The location is ideal if u want peace and quiet. The nearest town is 15 mins away with shops and pubs etc.

Great location Lovely little cafe

The Eco-Lodge is a great spot to stay. The Tarka Trail is right next door. You're in beautiful North Devon countryside with the sound of birds singing the only thing you'll hear as you wake in the morning. We had a lovely peaceful time. Highlight was watching Chaffinches, a Nuthatch and many other birds as we ate our breakfast. Lovely time. Check in was easy. Property is functional but relaxing and beautifully clean. Nice log burner if things get chilly. Will come again.
