No kitchen - be sure to read all reviews
Xanthe the host was delightful and did everything she could to make the stay successful. HOWEVER, I do wish I had read every review and realised there was NO KITCHEN in this property. I had assumed that searching for the category “entire property” would mean that a kitchen was taken as given as in normal living accommodation. Whilst there is a kettle, toaster & microwave in the lounge, there is no facility to wash up, and you are specifically told to leave ‘cutlery’ on the yellow tray which will be washed elsewhere by the owner, and NOT to wash it in the bathroom sink. It turns out ‘cutlery’ actually includes crockery as well, and that one puts it all on the yellow tray and leaves it outside the entrance door. As we had brought food with us to self-cater the lack of kitchen was an immediate let down. There is a full size fridge freezer. The freezer is full of what we assume is the owners food. Water for drinking is provided in several jugs left in the fridge. The description I would use for this property is ‘Garden guest suite’, situated in a small garden of a semi-detached house in what to us is a scruffy area. Parking is a nightmare, the driveway is at an extremely steep angle, and there is a protruding step that one must make sure to avoid with your vehicle. We had been told there was plenty of room for our two cars, but that wasn’t the case. The road is jammed packed with parked vehicles. Our advice, be sure to use Google Street View (or similar) before booking. Finally, Xanthe tries her best to make the stay successful, but overall we were disappointed. We run a holiday let at our home ourselves, and know what is involved, but the description and in our opinion the photos are misleading. Oddly a small run of kitchen units where the fridge and dresser is with a sink, two ring hob and under counter fridge would be very easy to install as all the plumbing is available. Quite why this is not provided we have no clue.
